Qur’an 2:255

“Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”

This is “Ayat Al-Kursi” and tremendous virtues have been associated with it, for the authentic Hadith describes it as “the greatest Ayat in the Book of Allah.”

Another Hadith regarding reciting Ayat Al-Kursi, Al-Bukhari recorded a story from Abu Hurayrah, in the chapters on the virtues of the Qur’an and the description of Shaytan, excerpt here: “Whenever you go to bed, recite Ayat Al-Kursi from the beginning to the end. If you do so, Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you, and no Shaytan will come near you until morning.”

This Ayat has concluded the oneness of Allah, the endless and absolute power of Allah, the fundamental belief of Islam.

After the glorification and clearly proclaim Allah is the Creator of everything in Ayat Al-Kursi (2:255); and the fundamental belief of Islam is to belief in Allah, the first line of the next Ayat is (2:256) “There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion.”

Thus, what is more important than worshipping Allah in Islam? Literally, nothing is more important than worshipping Allah, but Allah still grant this to the humanity, the freedom of choice, the freedom of thought and the freedom of religion. Simply because Allah is in control of everything, He is the Knower of the seen and unseen, open or hidden, nothing can hide from Him. So, if anyone is trying to take away these rights from others, it is same as one is putting himself above Allah. Surely, no one can escape this fate (3:185) “Every soul will taste death and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection”.

(2:256)
There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever refuses to be led by Satan and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
